The location of this world exposes it to races which have shown themselves to be less than friendly. It would also make a good stepping off point for those unfriendlies if they had any ambition to invade the peaceful members of the Palian Protectorate. Accompanied by her friend Domino, a non-human in human form and her ship's now sentient AI who chose the name Eddie, they set off to find out exactly what is going on.

Amanda II: The Void

The world of Garn II was slowly becoming self-sufficient. Things were stable enough that when some of their neighbors were planning to build a new shipyard to support spacecraft that were now travelling further towards the edge of the galactic arm, where Garn II and Sarenia were located, thoughts turned to refueling and engineering support services. What existed was really primitive and totally unsuitable for something like a one mile long Palian battleship. Sarenia was also at the stage where they needed a proper facility to construct larger ships. The sentient machine that had run the Garn ark ship for the last 50,000 years over many tens of thousands of lightyears was persuaded to manage the project. The Shipmaster became the Shipyard Master.

Whatever it was, the few inhabitants of the void were oddly belligerent towards any visitors and there had to be a reason. What was discovered resulted in beings from two planes of existence which usually avoided interference with others combining forces to tackle the problem.

Portrait of Philip Peake

About Philip

Born in England in the West Midlands (where Ancestry DNA tells me 90%+ of my ancestors lived), attended a Grammar School (when there were such things) and later, after completing an apprenticeship, went on to Keele University. I worked at the University after graduating, until I was offered a job in France. I moved there alone for a year, then, deciding it was a good place to live, moved my family to a small village named Gif-sur-Yvette, about 25 miles SW of Paris. Leaving an older child in England.

We lived in France for 10 years. Then I received a job offer in America. Moved again, leaving a couple of daughters in France. Just taking our 4-year-old son with us.

Still living in Oregon, which, of course, has changed, but not in its geography and scenery which is still amazing.

I was never much for writing. Until I had an idea I wanted to explain to a book author about one of his books. The easiest way was to write a couple of chapters. He had other ideas for the way he wanted his book series to go, so I dropped the idea. Then, months later, I came across what I had written, re-read it, and decided it was actually not bad. I continued, and 111,000 words later, I had a book. Couldn’t do anything with it, but the original author suggested a website where it could be placed, not advertised, and not for sale. It got a few readers and likes. So I wrote the next one, and the next…

Five books later, I had introduced enough ideas and characters for a spin-off book — Amanda. Amanda II followed, and Amanda III is getting close.
